The first piece of the puzzle that forms our home is Education.
At Mayar Care we understand that education can be disrupted as a result of a young person moving into care, or between placements. We thus make an extreme effort to ensure that their education is taken seriously and we help ease this transition from KS3 to KS4. Here are some of the ways we support our young person in Education through our key working sessions.
1-1 Personalised Tutoring:
We are connected with experienced tutors and school teachers who provide 1-1 tutoring sessions with our young people on a regular and consistent basis.
Our tutors understand our young people's mental and health challenges; personalising teaching to the young persons' needs.
Enrichment programmes:
We organise extra-curricular activities, workshops and trips to foster a love for learning outside the classroom. Our London homes are situated perfectly as our trips allow our young people to explore the rich history of London and its ethnically diverse boroughs and sorrounding areas.
Some ways we do this is by going to different museums, going to the Planetarium, Thames River Cruise, The West End, attending different religious institutions and many many more. London is endless!
College Counselling:
We provide guidance on college and course selection, and help navigate them through their application processes.
We explore different colleges (both regular and special needs support) to help young people make informed decisions about their educational paths.
Employment Counselling:
Our aim is to help get our young people into employment. We strongly believe that employment is essential in our young persons expereince belt as it develops many characteristics that are not achievable in other ways such as, independance, punctuality, work ethic and financial responsibility.
We help our young people with building CVs, and attending jobfairs. We focus on our young persons passion and skills, and help them navigate part-time employment based around their needs.
Assistive Technology Support:
Our homes are equipped with computers and assistive technologies and tools that can enhance learning and accessibility for young people with diverse needs.
For example, text-to-speech software, screen readers, or adaptive learning platforms for young people with disabilities.
By incorporating these strategies, Mayar Care creates a nurturing and supportive environment within the care home, ensuring that our young individuals receive the necessary support to thrive academically while being cared for in a holistic manner.
